Why we picked this

Using speculative animation to open a conversation about ocean policy is a genuinely different approach, and the panel pulling together marine scientists, artists, and climate advocates makes the Q&A worth staying for.

What might our oceans look like in fifty years? Three animated short films (M.A.N.A, Havsrå, and Matsya) each imagine a different possible future for the sea, drawing on traditions from the Pacific, Scandinavia, and South Asia. The screenings are brief; the questions they raise are not.

Following the films, a panel of marine scientists, artists, and policy thinkers will discuss what it actually takes to protect ocean ecosystems, who gets a say in those decisions, and how creative speculation can shift the terms of climate debate. Speakers include Dr Aline da Silva Cerqueira (King’s College London), Dr Sean Chen (Imperial College London), artist Emma Critchley, and architect Nathan Su.

Free to attend at the Durham Street Auditorium, RSA House.
