Counterpoints x Footnote Prize readings
Five shortlisted authors read and discuss their work for the fiction prize celebrating refugee and migrant writers.
Why we picked this
Literary prizes are at their best when they surface voices that mainstream publishing overlooks. This one does exactly that, and hearing the shortlisted writers read their own work adds urgency the page cannot.
The Counterpoints x Footnote Prize for Fiction brings five shortlisted authors to the Southbank Centreβs Purcell Room to read from and discuss their work. The prize, worth Β£15,000, celebrates novels by writers from refugee and migrant backgrounds, centering stories of displacement, courage, and belonging.
Timed to coincide with Refugee Week, the evening offers a rare chance to hear emerging voices whose fiction is shaped by experiences that remain underrepresented in literary fiction. The readings are followed by conversation about the craft and circumstances that produced these novels.
